Dezz, I have a question regarding mixing Superior Drummer and such like drum sample plugins. When mixing, should I still print each part (i,e,. hi-hat, snare, etc) and treat them in the same way I would when mixing a drumkit which I (or someone else) has recorded ‘live’?
That’s what I like to do. Superior Drummer has a bounce feature which allows you to bounce out all microphones to separate files in one shot. Import them back into your session as 24 bit WAV files. Sometimes I’ll mix right in the plugin but honestly, that’s just me being lazy. Lol!
Yes, I’ve bounced them before, as you’ve described. My question was really more about whether they actually need treating with EQ and such like? Basically, do I need to assume they need the same treatment as real drums, or can I get away without doing anything with them? haha
If you bounce them without any FX from within the plugin then in theory you are getting the sampled microphone signals unprocessed. So yes, I would treat them as though I recorded the signals myself.
